MARIA VARGAS

Maria Vargas is a photographer based in New York City. She holds a bachelor's degree in Photojournalism from the University of North Texas, with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies, and is currently pursuing graduate studies in International Migration at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Vargas specializes in environmental portraiture and human-interest photo stories that intersect with her research interests in migration and identity. She is a co-founder of Lifted by Lenses, a transnational organization that equips young people around the world with cameras, photography, and writing skills. LBL photo clubs are currently active in the United States, Mexico, Kenya, South Africa, Sierra Leone, and Nepal.
